BBC’s Mark Lowen Was Deported From Turkey for Just Doing His Job

Listen to the interview with BBC journalist Mark Lowen in the “SMALL TALK” podcast series.

Mark Lowen is a British journalist, now based in Rome. He works for BBC News as a correspondent in Southern Europe and he is the co-presenter of OS for BBC World Service. He was also based in Athens covering the financial crisis in the 2010s. After Athens he moved to Istanbul where he stayed for five years until 2019, a city he knows well enough to return there and cover the aftermath of mayor Imamoglou’s recent arrest and imprisonment. Less than 100 hours after his arrival, he was deported for being “a threat to public order”.

In this episode of Small Talk, Mark Lowen shares his experience on being the latest victim of brutal press freedom suspension.
