About iMEdD Lab’s Creative Commons publishing approach:
Collaboration is central to our philosophy as a driver of progress and development. We therefore publish under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International license and encourage journalists and media organizations to reproduce our stories freely, amplifying their reach and impact.
Understanding the Creative Commons Philosophy: Creative Commons is a global movement dedicated to expanding the range of creative works available for others to build upon legally and share. It provides creators with a spectrum of licensing options, allowing them to retain certain rights while granting others permission to use, share, and adapt their creations. At iMEdD, we wholeheartedly embrace this philosophy, recognizing its potential to democratize access to knowledge and foster collaboration in the media landscape.
The Benefits of Creative Commons:
- Enhanced Accessibility: By licensing our content under Creative Commons, we break down barriers to access. Media outlets, educators, researchers, and individuals worldwide can freely access and utilize our stories without concerns about copyright infringement.
- Global Reach: Creative Commons licensing facilitates the widespread dissemination of our content across borders and languages. Media organizations can translate, republish, and redistribute our stories, ensuring that they reach diverse audiences around the world.
- Collaborative Innovation: By encouraging others to build upon our work, we foster a culture of collaboration and innovation. Media outlets can adapt our stories to suit their audiences, add new perspectives, or integrate them into larger narratives.
- Ethical Journalism: By making our content freely available, we uphold the principles of ethical journalism and information transparency. Media organizations can use our stories as primary sources, fact-checking references, and educational materials, enhancing the integrity and credibility of their reporting.
A few things to remember:
We often republish from other sources, however, those stories and images can only be licensed if we have explicit permission from the authors, photographers, or publishers. The same goes for videos from our conferences.
We sometimes purchase photos or illustrations from commercial services that do not allow for them to be reused, so please check the provenance of images (which we indicate in their captions) and verify whether you have the right to use them.
When republishing our stories, please credit iMEdD and the author and provide a link to the original article on lab.imedd.org. If you are using facts or figures from our story, please credit iMEdD.
We are always happy to hear about republication. Let us know at [email protected]. You can also contact us at this address for any queries.
