iMEdD celebrates its two years of operations and invites you in a three-day virtual forum (February 17-19) about the present and the future of journalism. Through panels, flash sessions, lectures, interviews, workshops, the  SNF Dialogues and the Avant-Première of the first documentary produced by iMEdD, participants will have the opportunity to get informed, to reflect, to exchange views and to get in touch with professionals and academics from Greece and abroad. Participation is free of charge and requires registration. Interpretation service will be available for all sessions.

REFLECT

Almost a year after the global pandemic hit Greece, iMEdD (incubator for media education and development) and SmallPlanet, in collaboration with dozens of creators, journalists, photojournalists and technicians, present Yorgos Avgeropoulos’ new documentary entitled “Parontes” (Present).

The film, which evolved from the homonymous multimedia project launched by iMEdD in April 2020, unfolds against the backdrop of the public healthcare system and follows the prominent figures at the forefront of the COVID-19 response, as well as the unsung heroes of the pandemic.

Immediately following the documentary screening, SNF DIALOGUES will hold an open discussion, with Yorgos Avgeropoulos as the main speaker, on the reality of journalism and the challenges around reliable news in the midst of a societal state of emergency.

Well-known journalists, photographers, and filmmakers who contributed to the production of the documentary “Parontes” and also collaborated for the multi-form project “Parontes” by iMEdD, will also participate in the discussion.

Viewers will have the chance to take part in the DIALOGUES, by asking their questions and comments online. The DIALOGUES are curated and moderated by Anna-Kynthia Bousdoukou.

The next workshop will present how to visualize geospatial data using only video and design tools, followed by a flash session on how to use social media as a tool for disseminating journalistic information. The day will end with a workshop on tracking people on social media and investigating how they connect with other potential parties of interest for your journalistic research.

RESTART

The day will start with a discussion about freedom of the Press, diversity and representation in the newsrooms.

Two presentations on the evolving practices in the interactive and immersive documentary and Οpen Source Intelligence Tools (OSINT) for investigation in journalism will follow.

iMEdD’s forum will end with a flash session about the podcasts “explosion” and a panel discussion on slow journalism, transmedia storytelling, and the use of technology in the process of building up the future of journalism.
